Activities

Fishing

Lough Allua is well known for fishing, popular with pike fishing enthusiasts and many fishing competitions take place here every year.

Hillwalking

The Gougane Barra forest park is probably the best hill walking hub in West Cork with many signposted routes suited to both beginners and experienced hikers and ranging from one hour to full day trails. The scenery is breathtaking with waterfall, mountain and lake views.

Night Kayaking

The bio-luminescence night kayaking trip definitely deserves a mention on its own. Lough Hyne is a 45 minute drive from the treehouse but it's an experience comparable to aurora borealis and is a must at least once in a lifetime!

Kayaking

Our beautiful Lough Allua is only 5km away and is a perfect spot for kayaking. You can pack a picnic and spend the whole day exploring the many hidden coves and inlets on the lake. Sea kayaking is a 45 min drive, and in the summer it can be a fantastic way to see the "tropical" face of Ireland with turquoise waters and to watch seals having a nap on rocks and islands.

Forest bathing

Step into the woods or follow our nature trail, listen to the birds and the wind in the trees and take time to completely switch off.

Swimming

There are many great swimming spots on Lough Allua and the old bathing pool in River Island in Inchigeelagh which is also a great picnic spot. Water is usually much warmer than in the sea making the lake an attractive swimming alternative.

Cycling

The area is perfect for cycling, quiet small roads and beautiful scenery make it an idyllic cycling location.
